HTML 5 Canvas Game

As a developer at Infi I am granted a week a year to work on a project of choice. Considering my gaming roots - I hold a Master’s degree in Gaming and Media Technology - I wanted to create a game on a mobile platform. Since my preference was to support as many mobile operating systems as possible, as well as desktop computers, I decided to use HTML 5 as my weapon of choice. HTML 5 which is generally well supported on the current generation’s mobile devices.

Here at Infi we’re proud to have adopted something like Google’s 20 percent time philosophy. We’re allowed to use one week a year to spend on projects not necessarily in our job descriptions. You can use the time to develop something new, or if you see something that’s broken, you can use the time to fix it. This is how we, Jorik van der Werf and Jurgen Westerhof recently got Conway’s game of life, among other features, working on second hand LED boards controlled by an Arduino.
My First iApp

In deze post zal ik vertellen over mijn ervaringen bij het ontwikkelen van iOS applicaties en daarbij praktische informatie geven over werken met Xcode. In toekomstige blogposts zal ik (onder enig voorbehoud) in gaan op het testen van je programma's op hardware, het publiceren er van in de App Store en Objective C als programmeertaal. Alle screenshots in deze post zijn klikbaar voor meer detail.
Liquid on iPhone and iPad

After writing my first iPhone app some time ago (see: Navier Stokes: iPhone vs iPad), last week I wrote another one. Not surprisingly, this app is again a fluid simulation.

Elke twee weken houdt iemand van ons op maandagochtend een korte presentatie voor de rest van Infi. We noemen deze presentaties grappend de 'Infi academy'. De presentaties mogen elk onderwerp hebben; het kort toelichten van een nieuwe programmeertaal, projectmethodiek of het vergelijken van veelgebruikte frameworks, zolang het in ieder geval de spreker maar interesseert. Laatst was het mijn beurt: een Infi Academy over MongoDB.
Type-safe XML programming in .NET

In most of our projects, we store our application data in a RDBMS. For a recent desktop application, however, we decided to store the data in an XML file. The reason for this being that there were no ACID requirements and the notion of using files to store data is of course more or less the standard in desktop applications. XML was chosen because of the wide range of tools available to manipulate that format.
